Fifth MoWiKo Meeting

16.10.2026
At the fifth meeting in Karlsruhe, the project teams from communication studies, linguistics, and philosophy presented and discussed the current status of their research. The enriching discussions provided valuable insights for the final stages of the project.
On behalf of the philosophy subproject, Anna Klassen presented a paper on the normative evaluation of moralization in social science topics, which has been submitted for publication. Lisa Gaffney and Doris Teutsch presented the current status of the survey analyses for the communication studies subproject, as well as further analyses of the knowledge test conducted as part of the survey. The analysis aims to uncover potential biases in the knowledge test and unfair wording of questions. In the linguistics division, Janine Dengler presented a corpus-linguistic study of an extensive dataset focusing on its moral content (“moral load”). The dataset includes texts from online and print media, as well as TV programs. The results of this study will be linked to the survey data from the communication studies subproject as part of a linkage analysis.
The insights into the current status of the subprojects provided ample material for discussion and sparked a lively interdisciplinary exchange. Together, the group planned the next steps in the MoWiKo project: In the coming months, in addition to continuing work on the subprojects, the group will finalize the guidelines and plan the closing events. We look forward to bringing the project to a successful conclusion together!
