Conference of the Research Network "Sprache und Wissen" (Language and Knowledge)
The annual conference of the Language and Knowledge Research Network will take place from September 23 to 25, 2026, under the title "Reading Between the Lines: The Pragmatics of the Unspoken." The starting point is the observation that moralizing is often not explicitly stated but rather implicitly conveyed through language. The conference takes this as an opportunity to focus on the implicit—that is, everything that is not said but is nonetheless communicatively effective.
The conference is organized by Janine Dengler, Dr. Maria Becker, and Prof. Dr. Ekkehard Felder.
In addition, the Graduate Platform is once again organizing an exciting workshop this year for all master’s and doctoral researchers participating in the SuW conference:
"How do you explain your own research concisely, persuasively, and in a way that sparks interest?"
That’s exactly what the graduate workshop “Pitch Perfect” is all about, for which we’re once again partnering with hei_INNOVATION, Heidelberg University’s technology transfer agency. In the workshop, participants will learn how to craft the perfect short pitch. The workshop will take place on September 23, and to apply, please submit an abstract of your own research project to: janine dengler ∂does-not-exist.gs uni-heidelberg de.
The program and additional information about the workshop are available at the following link: http://sprache-und-wissen.de/veranstaltungen/tagung-2026
